LIAR GAME Season 2 Officially Announced, Madhouse Continues the Mind-Game Anime

The staff of the TV anime adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani's LIAR GAME has announced that the series will continue in a second season. The news was reported on September 28 by Final Weapon, with character designer Kei Tsuchiya marking the occasion with a brand-new commemorative illustration for fans of the high-stakes psychological thriller.

LIAR GAME follows college student Nao Kanzaki, who suddenly receives a strange letter and a suitcase containing 100 million yen. She has been chosen to take part in the LIAR GAME, a ruthless psychological battle where lies, deception, and betrayal reign supreme. Naive and painfully honest, Nao quickly finds herself cornered — until she turns to Shinichi Akiyama, a brilliant former con artist with unmatched intellect. As the two dive deeper into the twisted game, they must outwit opponents in a world where trusting others could be fatal.

The anime's main cast features Saya Hitomi as Nao Kanzaki, Takeo Otsuka as Shinichi Akiyama, and Kazuhiro Nakaya as Leronira, the game's masked mediator. The expanded cast also includes Natsuki Hanae as Norihiko Yokoya, Taku Yashiro as Takayoshi Miura, and Toshinari Fukamachi as Daisuke Danno, among many others — a large ensemble befitting a story built around tournaments of deception.

The Madhouse Team Returns

The animation is produced by Madhouse, the studio behind international hits such as Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Chi: On the Movements of the Earth. Yuzo Sato serves as chief director alongside director Asami Kawano, with Tatsuhiko Urahata handling screenwriting and series composition. Kei Tsuchiya, who drew the celebratory new illustration, is the character designer, while Kisuke Koizumi handles sound direction and Yugo Kanno composes the score. Musical duo kroi performs the second theme song "All in," and muque performs the second ending theme song "Still Not Enough."

The series is streaming on Crunchyroll, giving international viewers a legal way to follow Nao and Akiyama's descent into the game.

A Manga With Two Decades of Legacy

Kaitani's original LIAR GAME manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to January 2015, collecting 19 volumes across its decade-long run. It is regarded as a landmark work in psychological suspense, built on intricate puzzles and character dynamics that expose the light and dark sides of human psychology. Earlier in 2026, Kaitani revisited the universe with a new short serialization, Liar Game: The Last Game, in Shueisha's Grand Jump Mucha magazine.

The franchise has proven remarkably adaptable over the years: a live-action drama in 2007, two live-action films, two online series, and a stage play adaptation that premiered in 2023. Kaitani's other notable work, ONE OUTS, also inspired a TV anime in 2008. With the first season establishing the brutal mind games on screen, the newly announced second season promises to escalate the psychological warfare even further.
