Black Clover Season 2 Will Be the Final Season, Adapting 123 Chapters in 26 Episodes

Black Clover is back — and it's going out on its own terms. The anime returns on October 3, 2026 after a five-year hiatus, and Studio Pierrot has now confirmed that Season 2 will be the show's last. Per reporting from The Daily Game News, Part 2 of the split-cour season carries the title "The Final Season," which means the remaining 123 chapters of Yuki Tabata's manga must fit into roughly 26 episodes. That is a lot of story for a final run, but the wait has only made fans hungrier.

The anime originally went off the air on March 30, 2021 after episode 170, which had caught up to Chapter 270 of the manga. Studio Pierrot ran out of material to adapt — Tabata's health issues had slowed the manga's pace — and chose to end the run rather than rely on filler. Since then, the manga has concluded entirely, ending on May 1, 2026 with Chapter 392 in Jump GIGA's Spring edition, plus an extra special chapter released on August 4, 2026 alongside Volume 38 and the Perfect Grimoire guidebook.

Three Arcs Left to Adapt

That leaves three major arcs still to animate: the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, the Hino Country arc, and the Judgment Day finale — all leading to the definitive ending Tabata wrote. With no third season on the schedule, Season 2's reported 26 episodes will need to move fast to cover all of them, which has fans both excited and anxious about pacing.

The Japanese cast includes Gakuto Kajiwara as Asta, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yuno, Hiro Shimono as Nacht Faust, and Junichi Suwabe as Yami Sukehiro. Ayataka Tanemura, who directed the last dozen or so episodes of the previous series as well as the feature film, returns to direct the new season for Studio Pierrot. The Fandom Post also reported a newly released key visual for the season, building anticipation with just days to go before premiere.

The End of a Five-Year Wait

The first trailer for the new season premiered back at Anime Expo earlier this summer, ending years of silence and speculation about the anime's future. For a series that ran 170 episodes from 2017 to 2021 plus a feature film, a confirmed final season is the kind of closure fans have been asking for since the show went dark.

The stakes are simple: this is the last ride. Five years after the anime caught up to its source material, Tabata's complete story is finally on the page, and Pierrot now has the entire map to work from. Whether 26 episodes is enough to do the Judgment Day finale justice remains the big question — but after this long, most fans would rather have a definitive ending than none at all. October 3 can't come fast enough.
